The 1997/98 Australian Domestic Cricket season has
seen the arrival of the Canberra Comets into the national one-day competition.
The Mercantile Mutual Cup is contested between sides from every corner
of the nation, apart from the Northern Territory. Canberra's arrival
in the competition has indicated a new era in Australian Cricket.
Michael Bevan, a current New South Wales and Australian representative
is one of the more famous Canberra-born cricketers, while former internationals
Mike Veletta and Merv Hughes form just a part of the new Comets side.
Based in Manuka Oval in the heart of the ACT, the Comets had a disappointing
start to the season but have now registered their first win over the Victorian
Bushrangers. Hopefully, this will be the first of many victories.
