The 1997/98 Australian Domestic Cricket season has seen the arrival of the Canberra Comets into the national one-day competition.  The Mercantile Mutual Cup is contested between sides from every corner of the nation, apart from the Northern Territory.  Canberra's arrival in the competition has indicated a new era in Australian Cricket.  Michael Bevan, a current New South Wales and Australian representative is one of the more famous Canberra-born cricketers, while former internationals Mike Veletta and Merv Hughes form just a part of the new Comets side.  Based in Manuka Oval in the heart of the ACT, the Comets had a disappointing start to the season but have now registered their first win over the Victorian Bushrangers.  Hopefully, this will be the first of many victories.  If you have any comments about this unofficial site please direct them to the webmaster, Kate McNamara.
